Community involvement

Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C). Your time and support help make our school a better place for everyone.

The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is a not-for-profit organisation run by a group of volunteers, whose primary role is to assist the school and promote the interests of the entire school community. Members work in close partnership with the school to achieve the best possible outcomes for students and other stakeholders in the school community.

Meeting details

Regular meetings are held and we extend an open invitiation to the whole school community to attend:

• Location: Principal's office (enter through main front door, first office on the left)
• Date: Every third Wednesday (during school term)
• Start time: 6:45pm

These meetings are relaxed and friendly. Tea/coffee and light snacks available.

Parents and friends who attend these meetings can:

• Have a voice in how the P&C and school operate.
• Discuss initiatives that will benefit students and improve their school experience.
• Build friendships with other families in the school community.
• Share ideas and tips such as various services available in the wider community.

School bus service

The P&C owns several buses, some of which are modified to accommodate wheelchairs. We employ several drivers who operate the morning and afternoon school runs as contractors under the Assisted School Travel Program. These buses also provide students access to outings, offering Karonga students valuable experiences outside the school.

The Transport Manager oversees the daily transport operations and ensures ongoing sustainability of transport operations for the long term benefit of the P&C .

Current projects funded by the P&C.

• Weekly music therapy with a part-time music therapist to help students develop or improve skills such as shared attention, social intetaction, communication and play;
• Weekly art therapy with a part-time art therapist for students to connect with themselves,communicate and express their emotions in a non verbal way; swimming with either a Learn to Swim to work on swim skills and water safety or a physiotherapist to help release muscles and increase the range of movement;
• Graduation clothing for students in Year 6 and Year 12.

Other projects we have funded

• Petting zoo activity at Founders Day celebrations.
• Gift bags for students.
• Renovation of the kitchen facilities and the addition of a laundry.
• Purchase of library books.
• A range of musical instruments for music therapy.

Additional projects or the extension of existing projects are continuously being reviewed and adjusted based on parents and school staff's input.
