Therapies funded by the parents and citizens association

Music therapy

Provided by Jann Birks

Jann provides a class based Music Therapy program and sees each class once a week for approximately 1 hour. Jann also works closely with the school Learning and Support Team to provide priority one to one music therapy support for specific students.

Private and NDIS funded therapy

There are 5 key steps for parents and carers who seek to have NDIS-funded services delivered at Karonga:

  1. Speak to the class teacher
  2. Complete the form Parent request for therapy (DOCX 49 KB)
  3. Meet/speak with school staff to discuss details
  4. Principal considers your request taking into account the needs of your child, other students and the operations of the school
  5. If agreed, the service needs to enter into an agreement with the school and meet important legal requirements.

Each case is considered individually

Therapy will be considered where there is a direct link with the student's individual goals.

  • All interventions must link to student personal learning plans and their NDIS plan.
  • The Learning and Support Team in consultation with class staff and the Principal give careful consideration to the impact of therapy on all students.

Times therapy is delieverd to students

  • Where approved, therapy services are able operate between 12.00pm and 3.00pm.
  • Therapy staff do not work with students during break times 1.25pm-2.00pm.
